2024-06-09 A Goldilocks Kind of Day

Ted on his 3.5

When I got up, I thought our plan for the day was to cycle the Historic Highway to Rowena Lookout, and then stop for some wine tasting on the way home - and then maybe do some foiling after that!

Well, Louise is still very sore from her fall yesterday and not up to riding.  Darn!

So instead we headed to Moiser so I could do some foiling.  Good for me - not great for Louise, although it was a beautiful day and she had her book.

When we got there, people were coming off the water saying how overpowered they were on their 3.5's.  I was going to go out on my 4.5, but was convinced to go out on the 3.5 instead.  I had some good runs, but I had to work REALLY hard to get up on foil.  There just wasn't quite enough even in the gusts.  I had a frustrating sail and then couldn't get back downwind to the launch site because I was slogging too much.

I came in for lunch pretty well worked.....  Lesson learned (again) always go with your gut and ignore what other people think! Louise and I ate our lunch on the beach and I consumed all the water we had with us!!!

The wind had dropped further, so I rigged my 5.5 and went out again.  As I was walking to the water the wind seemed to be picking up.  I got out, and I could make it work, but I was totally overpowered and not comfortable at all.  Way too much.

So... I came back to shore and rigged my 4.5.  This time I had a great sail.   The 4.5 was just right!  I was maybe over powered a few times, but most of the times I was just right, and was able to do back-to- back jibes on the swell - lots of fun!

I came in at 3:00 totally spent!  If I hadn't been on my 3.5 on the first session, I am sure I would have had the energy to keep going - but great day anyway.

Louise took some photos, and read her book!  Not what we had planned on doing, but not completely a bust either!

We had a beer and some taco's on Ross's deck and then I cooked supper.  Early to bed.

Ross arrived around 8:00pm.  It was great to catch up!

The 4.5 was just right!
