2024-06-08 Crash and Burn

Louise with her new Helmet - per Cam's advice!

Louise and I got up early and were out of the motel by 8:00 so we could enjoy our "River Ride" before checking out.  We made it two or three blocks.  My mapping program told me to take a short cut across the parking lot, so I turned right.  I heard a scream.  Louise, who was following me closer than I expected, hit my rear tire and then crashed to the pavement!

I can't tell you how I was feeling as she was laying there in pain.  It took a few minutes, but she gathered herself together and with my help, she got up so we could sit on a light pillar.  She hit her head, scraped her elbow badly, and scraped her hand and knee.  If I had only looked in my mirror before turning right!  Wow!

Long story short, and after consultation with our resident emergency doctor, Cam, it appears that she likely doesn't have a concussion, and that she likely hasn't broken her shoulder or elbow (even though they both hurt like hell), and that she may live - although because of the deep cut on her elbow she should stay out of the water for the next few days!  DAMN!  She had really psyched herself up for a few days at the Hook or the Event Site.

We walked our bikes back to the hotel, and packed up to leave.  After a telephone consultation with our medical expert (thanks CAM), we drove to Hood River... after swinging by Rite Aid for medical supplies.

Our fist stop in Hood River was Big Winds, where we purchased a new Bike Helmet for Louise!

We checked in to Ross's condo, unpacked our gear and changed the dressing on Louise's elbow.  The wind was supposed to pick up, but I think the clouds really dampened the thermal heating. We drove to Moiser, but there were only a couple of wingers out on the far side of the river, and everyone else was packing up.

We went to Safeway for some groceries and polysporin and and then returned to Ross's.

We had a nice supper together in the condo and watched the Oilers Game.  I don't have to tell you how that turned out.  At least they played great, and probably should have won - but that is hockey...

Not the best day of our trip, but looking forward to a nice bike ride and wine tasting tomorrow.  Things could have been much worse.  Louise is in good spirits, but disappointed about not being able to sail.

Looking forward to a great day tomorrow.  Thanks again Cam, we really appreciate your help!
