2024-06-07 Spokane River Trail

A nice old Thunderbird in the Tim Horton's Parking lot in Cranbrook

Louise and I were up and gone before 8:00 (Alberta Time).  The chatter on WhatsApp had already started.  It looked like it will be windy again in Alberta.  WTF - I should get you guys to pay me to go away!!!

Neither Cam or Cynthia could make it out, but Cam said everyone was welcome and the sauna was open and ready to go!  Big Air Jim decided he would rather go golfing... something about being rained out last week and he was committed... bla.. bla.. bla..

It sounds like everyone else had a lot of fun.  Ross, Blaine, Andreas and Kent were all at Cam's.  Blaine and Kent were on their 3.2m sails and over powered at times.  Mike was at Alberta Beach, Kiting with a 6m kite (depowered at times), and I'm not sure where Tim was, but he was overpowered on his 5.4 windsurfing!

Making a mess of Cam's Lawn!

I didn't hear from anyone else, but it looked like it was windy all over.  The weather station on my dock at Dried Meet Lake was showing a fairly consistent 30kph with gust to 40.  It also showed some big lulls, but that may be a dock thing...

Nothing like COLD beer in a HOT sauna!

I was going to say I wish I was there, but Louise and I had a lot of fun here too.  We arrived at the Spokane Train Station around 11:00.  It has a nice, secure parking area.  We did a trail that Komoot calls the Manitoe park loop from Cliff–Cannon loop.  It wasn't as nice as Calgary or Cranbrook, but there were some very scenic sections, but also a few sketchy short sections on some major roadways, that Louise wasn't too keen on.  Overall it was a great ride, and we managed to finish it before the temperature got too warm.  A highlight of the ride was when a World War 2 Seaplane Spotter Aircraft, I think it was a Curtiss SC Seahawk, came from behind and landed right beside us on the river!  It taxied to a dock on the far side - maybe giving folks rides!  Very cool.

A Curtiss SC Seahawk (I think) - landed right beside us!

When we were done, we walked over to the The Onion Bar and Grill.  The food was great, but a little too much.  Good thing I burned off a lot of Calories today.  Louise asks why I have an E-Bike if I never turn it on....

We left Spokane around 2:30 and arrived at our Motel in Kennewick around 5:00.  We had a really nice late supper sitting on a deck overlooking the Columbia River at the Rattlesnake Mountain Brewing Company.  We are ready for another ride along the river tomorrow before heading to Ross's.  Great Day!
