Louise and I were in the middle of packing, because we leave for the Gorge tomorrow, but with the warm wind today, we couldn't resist. The "Plan" was for me to sail for an hour or so in the morning, and if it was good, then Louise and I would do a downwinder to the boat launch in the afternoon.
The first part of the plan worked great! I had a good session and even completed two "standing" tac's. I came off the foil, but I stayed out of the water! (99L Board, 5.5m Wing and 899 foil). I think I am making slow progress!
After lunch, I drove the truck down to the public beach and rode my bike back. I then rigged a 5m wing for Louise. She was all ready to put on her wetsuit when the wind suddenly quit. No whitecaps!
We sat on the bench for a few minutes to see if the wind would pick up, and it did a bit, but it also looked like a rain cloud was approaching. Damn. So much for our "Plan".
I deflated our wings, and then rode my bike back to the truck thinking I would take it down the hill to get our boards, but as I got home, a thunderstorm rolled through and we got a good rainstorm. Enough to make the hill slippery - Darn.
After a few trips down and up our hill, our gear is all packed. The bikes are loaded, and we are ready to head off first thing in the morning. The first stop will be a bike ride in Calgary - not too far!
A good start to the trip - for me at least! Too bad Louise didn't get a sail!
