2024-03-08 Windy Day

2024-03-08 Windy Day

Ted - oops!!!
I think everyone had a pretty slow morning, waiting for the wind.  Blaine, Jim, and Cam, all went to the bakery for sourdough bread and treats for breakfast.  They came back raving about how good it all was.  Louise and I took some bird photos.

At around 12:30, people were starting to head out.  The forecast was for stronger winds in the afternoon, but the thermal never really kicked in.

Kent was out first, and making it look easy as usual!  Cam followed, then Blaine and Jim.

Louise had three good sessions on the 4.5.  I was out on the 5.5 and had fun sailing around her.  She is really progressing and going for some fairly long foil rides (about 6" high).  She says she enjoys it when the guys sail past and say hello!  I think they all enjoy doing that too...

I sailed for about 20km and then came in for a rest.  I went out to help Cal again - he was struggling and still trying to learn how to waterstart.  I wish Charles, Tristen, or Thomas would spend more time with him.    I lent my life jacket to him to try to help him in the deep water, which might have helped. He was out the whole afternoon without a break!  I wish I had his stamina and drive.  I would be a much better foiler by now if I did!

Ted - trying to ride a wave...

I went back out again without my life jacket, but with Louise's harness.  It was a good session, although I automatically tried to hook in after every jibe.  It was probably good for me to try to be more efficient so it is easier on the hands and arms.  I missed being able to hook in!   I came in with a bit more than 27km for the day, lots of good jibes, and a few spectacular crashes.  Slow Progress!

Cam was having a great time on his 5m wing and smaller front foil.  He and Kent were having fun doing "figure 8's" in the swell.  Cam said he sailed 47km!  Wow!

Cam - ready to jibe!

Louise spent the latter part of the afternoon taking photos on the beach... 400 of them.

We sailed until almost 5:00.  It was still windy, but everyone was beat.

Post Sailing De-Brief!

After cleaning up, I started working on photos.  I got through half of them and then went to join the guys on their patio for a beer.

Blaine - Making it look easy!

I chatted with Randy, who is learning winging and has been here for two weeks.  He heads home to Iowa tomorrow.  He said he still has his snow fences up, and his neighbours are calling saying they are in the way because they are starting to seed their fields....  A bit different than Alberta!

Randy's Last Day!

We all went to Las Guacamayas el Sargento for supper.  Kent and Lorna, and Jim and Cam each shared the Seafood Stone Bowl.  It looks like something out of the movie Aliens.... not something I desire at all, but they said it was excellent.  Louise, Blaine and I each had one of the stuffed potatoes where were also excellent.

Kent and Lorna - "Alien" Seafood Stone Bowl!

We all went back to the Party Palace for a beer after supper, but we must have looked pretty funny laying back on the couch with no energy at all.....  Early to bed - Looks like wind again tomorrow.

Ted - Best day yet!

Charles - showing us how it's done!
