 2024-03-07 - On & Off, and On & Off

Blaine!

My day started out with Jim and Blaine calling "Ding Dong" outside our patio door... (We don't have a door bell).  They wanted to know where to go for breakfast, so I took a quad, and they took one of the Pathfinders and I guided them to PalapasVentana, which I think is one of the best breakfast spots.  I think they enjoyed it!  It has a beautiful view of the bay, and the service is usually excellent, as is the food!!

Louise and I were visiting some friends in the Las Palmas Campground when the wind started to come up.

There was a rigging frenzy taking place when we got back to ProWindsurf.

I sent Louise out on a 4.5 wing, but she was quite over powered, so after a few runs, she came back in (right to the beach).  Then she went out on a 3.5, but the wind had dropped so she slogged back (right to the beach!).  I gave her back the 4.5 and she had a good couple of runs, but then the wind really dropped.  She didn't think she would get back, but then she caught a small gust, and came right back again!  Wow!

I went out on the 5.5 and had a really good sail until the wind dropped.  I slogged back.

The wind was up and down all day.

Kent was rocketing around on his 4.8 sail and 114 Litre board.  He seems impervious to the wind changes.

Kent!

Cam was out on his 5m wing and had a great time.  He and Kent were doing figure 8's in the waves.  They both said it was the neatest thing riding a swell and jibing all within easy talking range.   No collisions but Cam's ego was crushed losing the day's contest of jibing around the other person 3 to 1..

Louise and I decided to have lunch & see what the wind would do.  It seemed to come back up, so  I went out again and had a good sail.  I chased Kent around for a while which was fun.  Of course my only falls of the day were in front of him...   (Hey, Kent here- I also saw some awesome wave rides and when I jibed to catch a point from Ted after the fall I had no chance because he's up and going so fast!)

Cam - having fun!

While I was out, Louise decided to give it another try and went out on the 4.5 again and had a good sail.  She got foiling on several of the runs, and came right back to the beach again - impressive.

Blaine was out and had a great day other than when the wind dropped the first time and he ended up way down wind.  If he had waited 15 minutes, he could have sailed back, but..... who knew...

Kent - making it look easy!

Jim had a good day, but struggled a bit with the up and down conditions.  The gear here is quite different from his Roberts at home, so it takes some getting used to.

I came off the water at around 3:30, and started taking photos.  One of our new friends, Cal, is trying to learn to windsurf waterstart, and was struggling, so I went out and spent some time with him giving him some tips on sail and board handling, and Louise took over with the photos.  I think my tips helped.  Cal has a prosthetic left leg, so it is really impressive what he is doing!  He also has more endurance than all of us put together!

Cal - got one!!!

We all came off the water around 4:00, which may have been a mistake as the wind seemed to pick up and steady out for another hour or so.  Charles and Thomas went out and put on a show.  Thomas's girl friend, Laurance, is just leaning to Wing, but is up on the foil, so it was fun taking photos of her.

Laurance

We also ran into our friends, Steve and Missy.  Missy is a trooper.  She is improving, and now standing up, but also doing a lot of walking.  (Steve is also doing a lot of walking, carrying her board....  I know how he feels, but Louise and I might be past that!)

After cleaning up and having a few beers, we all headed out for supper.  We walked down to the Baja Grill, but it was very full, with a line-up.  It was open mic night, and it looked like everyone was there for the evening, so we walked back the other direction to Marlin Azul.  Once again, the service was a bit slow, but the food was plentiful, and excellent.  It really is the best place in town.  Jim said "why would we go anywhere else".

After supper, we went back to the Party Palace to look at some photos, but we didn't last long.  It was well past Baja Midnight (maybe 9:15) & we were all exhausted and ready for bed!

Another great day!  Looking forward to more wind tomorrow!!!
