2024-03-09 Another Windy Day

2024-03-09 Another Windy Day

Blaine was first on the water on a 4.8 - the same as the last couple of days.  He didn't even tell anyone else he was going.  When we got down to the water, he was already out.

It was a bit cooler with a bit of cloud, but the background Norte was working, so it was quite windy, although gusty with big waves that got larger as the day went on!

Kent also took his 4.8 and was next out.  Jim was the same, but changed to a 5.1 later.

Louise went out on a 4.0 and and a 105L board &had a good couple of reaches, but then came in for a 3.5.  She said she really likes the smaller board as it is easier to control in the wind.  I went out on a 5.0 wing and chased Louise around.  Unfortunately the wind dropped a bit, and shifted direction.  That, combined with big waves, caused the fear to start to take over from the fun for Louise, and she ended up downwind.  I mean way down wind....  I chased her to shore and then helped her get her gear out of the surf.

I took her board and sailed it back to ProWindsurf, picked up our lunch and walked back to Louise with my wing.  We sat on the beach and had our lunch.  It was a beautiful beach, but a bit uncomfortable with the on-shore wind.

I then sailed my own board back while Louise walked back with her wing.  We got back about the same time, so I continued and had a pretty good session until the wind dropped off again.  I then slogged back.

I think everyone had a bit of a tough sail today.  Kent said he foiled out a bunch of times, and at one point, had a "Near Foil" experience when he fell backwards off the board.

Kent - "Near Foil/Death" experience!

Maybe it is the result of multiple days of sailing in a row, or maybe it was the conditions, but everyone was tired and sore by the time we quit.

Jim complained to Louise that he had ended up downwind, and Louise said "Well.... Not even half as far down wind as I was..."  Louise won that one today...

I rigged a 5.5m wing for one last session late in the day, but the wind started to die as I was walking out.  I should have turned around, but I slogged out, and then slogged back... darn - missed it.

We sat on the patio by Jim, Cam and Blaine's casita and de-briefed the day.  We met a fellow windsurfer and winger from Calgary who had just arrived.  Mike and his wife Julie for two weeks.

Louise had asked that we go to Nomada for supper.  I tried to make reservations for 6:30, but the best they could do was 7:30.

The Nomada was excellent as usual.  A lot of the worlds problems were solved over a few drinks and some excellent food!  Louise and I split a Large Pizza and a small salad.  Kent and Lorna did the same.  Blaine had a small pizza and Cam and Jim had a large salad, a bread plate, a large Pizza.  It is amazing how much Cam can eat!!!

Louise - Four Season Pizza!

It was way past Baja midnight when we got back to ProWindsurf, (9:30), so we all went straight to bed....
