2024-09-07 Day of Rest - Sort of....

Shoot 'Em Up Kent

We were a bit lazy getting up today.  Apparently we missed some wind as Bruce texted Kent at 7am saying that he was going out on a 7.0 at Viento.  That didn't sound very exciting, so we passed.  We found out later that it had been windier than that, and that Bruce was blown off the water, which would have meant Kent would have been on his 5.2 or 4.5, and I could have been on the same rig as yesterday.  Oh well, it likely only lasted an hour or so...  Missed it.

Blaine, Brad, Kent and I went to the Wester Aero and Automobile Museum Fly-in at the Ken Jernstedt Airfield.  The museum is amazing, and they had a wonderful collection of privately owned antique aircraft that had flown in for the Fly-In Event.  We spent a few hours touring through the visiting aircraft, and some of the planes in the museum.  I'm sure you could spend a few days there and not see everything.

Ford Tri-Motor - Taking Off

We watched a Harvard, and a Beaver fly in with families aboard, and blow peoples hats off as they turned around to park.  We also watched a Ford Tri-Motor start up and take off with eight paying passengers on board ($250US each).  On the way out of the facility we spent some time in the Museum.  There was something new to look at around every corner.  A little bit of everything. It was really interesting!  More photos are on my Flickr site HERE.

Cam and Andreas went for a bike ride to Lost Lake.  Big Air Jim shuttled them uphill to Dee where they started, From there, they climbed up to Lost Lake and then returned to Hood River.  It was about a 70km ride.  They said it was really enjoyable, with beautiful scenery and almost no traffic.  The way was on a single track road with no traffic.

In the afternoon, Blaine, Brad and Kent went to the Hatchery to look around and wait for wind.  I think the photo that they took as they were leaving tells the story better than I can.

No Wind at the Hatchery

Cam, Big Air Jim and Andreas went shopping to Big Winds.  Cam is looking for a new wing.  I rode my bike down and joined them, but didn't find anything I needed, so I carried on and rode around the water front.  On the way back to the Townhouse, I stopped to watch a band, Megan Alder & the Woods playing at a Street Party on 4th street, hosted by Double Mountain Brewery.  They were really excellent.  I sat on my bike in a parking lot enjoying the music!

Al went to the hospital to have his foot looked at.  They did an X-Ray, and the good news is that it is not broken.  The bad news is that he is done sailing for a while.  He will probably leave for home tomorrow.

Vadim took his camera and went looking for interesting subjects to photograph.  He submits his photos to Adobe Stock where they are sold and he gets a small fee.  He is always amazed at which photos sell and which don't.  He also has a portfolio on line here.  It is worth having a look.

Andreas decided that he and Cam would make Gnocchi for supper for everyone...  It sure looked like a lot of work, but it was delicious!  I think everyone ate too much - I know I did.  Kit joined us.  He had enjoyed the windsurfing trade show and had done a bunch of wake surf foiling with some of the pros on the no wind days.  He showed me some video of five or six guys all surfing on the wave behind the boat at the same time.  Fun!

It was a great evening again!  What a great group!
