2024-03-11 And Then There were Four!

2024-03-11 And then there were Four...

Rooftop Sunset!

Louise and I got up early & went out to say goodbye to Cam, Blaine and Jim.  The van was on time, or a little early, so we all said our goodbye's loaded their gear, and they were off!  We were sorry to see them go!  What a great week!

I worked on photos, although there weren't many from yesterday, and caught up on my log and blog.  It was cloudy and the forecast wasn't great, but it said there would be a chance of late wind in the afternoon.

At around noon, Louise and I headed down to the beach.  I took some photos of a bird on top of the sail boat, and then we had a nice chat with Steve and Missy, who were walking up the beach.  We then joined Kent who was sitting by the gear shed, reading.

Perched on top of the Sailboat mast, enjoying the view!

At 1:30 Kate and Chuck walked past.  They said they had been sitting on the beach,  but suddenly it had gotten a lot cooler.  By 2:30 the wind had picked up to where it might be sailable...

Kent was out as usual, on a 6.1 Sail.  He slogged for a bit, but then pumped up and was gone.   Kent was very impressed by the 1007 slingshot phantasum wing for light wind.

Louise went out on a 5.5 wing for a couple of sessions, but was disappointed as she couldn't get onto a foil, although she did stay upwind.

I went out on a 7.0m wing, a 120l Board and a huge foil.  I got foiling without too much difficulty.  Wow is that big foil slow.....  I worked my way upwind and joined Kent.  We were almost the only sailors out on the ocean!  Weird.  The wind up by the campground seemed a bit better.  We didn't want to go too far upwind unless the wind died.

Charles came up and joined us on his 87l wind foil board and 4.4m Sail and no uphaul (WTF).   Kent has suggested we add a 100lb wt to the foil he uses and maybe we could catch him...  We all had fun blasting around.

I struggled with my jibes with the big wing and foil.  Charles told me later the trick is to do everything really SLOWLY.  If you try to carve too hard, you almost always catch an edge.  If I need to use it again tomorrow, I will move the foil forward as I was having to sail with my foot a bit behind the footstrap to keep things balanced.

At about 4:00, Kent sailed past and said we should start thinking about heading back as it was already after 4:00 and the wind may start lightening up.  We took our time sailing back and arrived back on shore around 4:30.  For a "No Wind Day" we call that a win!

The party palace was hopping when we arrived.  Wyatt, Zaira, Kate, Charles, Kavon, and a lot of the new guests were all there.  Mike and Julie from Calgary, Dan and Lisa from Portland, and Mike and Lisa from New Jersey.  Phil and his wife Kelsey and their new baby girl, Zosia, were also there.  It was really nice to see them and to meet Zosia.  We had a good chat.

Everyone went to the rooftop to watch the sunset.  (It looks better in the photo than it did in real life...).

We took the Toyota van and headed to supper around 7:00.  Kent had another "near death" experience when was leaving his casita and walking to the van.  He turned out the light on his deck and then "foiled out" on the bottom step and fell in the bush, twisting his ankle!  Damn!!!  He was in a lot of pain and needed some help getting up!  He limped to the van, but insisted he was OK.   He also claims it had nothing to do with the beers or his untied laces...   Lorna begs to differ.

We went to Minato Sushi for supper.  Kent and I had the Teriyaki bowl, Louise had a burger, and Lorna had a seafood bowl.  All were excellent.  Kent said it may have been the best meal of the trip!  We felt badly for the owners, as we were the only people in the restaurant.

We stopped at the Star Market on the way home for a few groceries and got home by 8:30.

Louise offered Kent some pain killers and/or muscle relaxants, but he insisted he was OK.  We sure hope his ankle isn't too bad!

Louise and I went back to the Party Palace, but there was no one there.  We stayed for a little while listening to a very good Spotify Mexican music "Play List" list that Wyatt had going on his IPad.  I forwarded the link to Louise's cell phone.

We left around 9:00 (Baja Midnight).  Kate, Wyatt, and Zaira were just arriving back from supper as we were walking back to our casita.  Kate was feeling no pain - everyone was having a great time.

Early to bed again!  Hoping for wind again tomorrow!

Ted - Pretty good session for a "No Wind Day"
